Tickle My Blog

Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have.

Fatwa Watch

OK, maybe I'm exaggerating, because I haven't seen any reliqious authorities calling for his murder, but cartoonist Doug Marlette has caused a bit of a stink with this cartoon, reprinted below. (Without permission, sorry!)

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has a statement denouncing the cartoon as offensive. But no death threat. In fact, they state that, when contacting the publishers, concerned Muslims should "As always, be POLITE. Hostile comments will only serve to further harm the image of Islam and Muslims." Good advice.

Kathlees Parker defends Marlette in her latest column. She calls him "an equal opportunity offender", which doesn't sound like much of a defense, but it's his right to be. That's always been the problem with free speech - it means sometime you have to listen to assholes.

Marlette has his own website, where he rebuts CAIR's condemnation.
